Overview
This 5-day Mount Kenya trek combines the scenic Sirimon Route ascent with the steeper and adventurous Naro Moru Route descent. The Sirimon Route offers gentle slopes, beautiful forests, and moorland views, while Naro Moru provides a faster descent and passes through the famous Vertical Bog.
With professional mountain guides, porters, and well-paced acclimatization, this trek offers a thrilling high-altitude experience to Point Lenana (4,985m)—the third-highest peak on Mount Kenya. Ideal for adventurers looking for a shorter but rewarding challenge.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
Depart Nairobi early and drive to Sirimon Gate (2,650m). After park formalities and lunch, begin your 3–4 hour hike through the forest and heather zone to Old Moses Camp, gaining 700 meters in elevation.

Accommodation: Old Moses Mountain Hut
Trek across the scenic Moorland zone, passing Liki and Mackinder Valleys. Watch out for wildlife such as rock hyrax, sunbirds, and possibly even eland. Arrive at Shipton’s Camp, situated below towering peaks and glaciers.

Accommodation: Shipton’s Camp
Spend the day at Shipton’s to acclimatize. Take a short acclimatization hike to Obsidian Tarn or the base of Point Lenana and return. This rest day is vital for a successful summit.

Start the climb to Point Lenana at around 3:00 am. Reach the summit by sunrise for unforgettable views over Mt. Kenya and, on clear days, even Kilimanjaro. Descend via the steep Naro Moru Route, passing the Vertical Bog, and continue down to Met Station.
Distance: 20km | Hiking Time: 10–12 hours

Accommodation: Met Station Camp
After breakfast, complete the descent through the forest zone to Naro Moru Gate. Transfer back to Nairobi with a lunch stop en route, arriving by late afternoon.
